“theSecretLifeofWalterMitty”读后感Theshortnoveltellsastoryofanagingman,WalterMittydrivingtotownforaregularshoppingwithhiswife,Mrs.Mitty.Walterisineptatmanythings.Heishen-peckedman,anabsent-mindeddriver;Hecan'thandlesimplemechanicaltasks,andheforgetsthingseasily.WhatmakesWalterexceptionalishisimagination.Inthistrip,Walterhadfiveheroicdaydreams,andeachofhisfantasiesisinspiredbysomedetailofMitty’smundanesurroundings.TheshortnovelbeginswithWalter’sfirstdaydream.HeimaginedhimselfasaCommanderofaNavyhydroplane.Hecommandedhiscrewtoincreasethespeedtogothroughintheseainahurricane.Whenhehadthisdaydream,hewasdrivingtowardWaterburyatafastspeed.HeregardedgoingtoWaterburyasadifficulttask,becausehiswifeorderedhimtogoshoppingwhileshewashavingherhairdone,anditwashardtomakehersatisfied.ThenMr.MittywasdrawnbacktorealitybyMrs.Mitty’scomplaintthathewasdrivingtoofast,whichindicatesthathisdrivingwaswhatledtothedaydream.AfterWalterputdownhiswifewhowasgoingtohaveherhairdone,hedrovetogoshopping.Hewasforcedbybothapolicemanandhiswifetoputonhisglovesinthisperiod.Thenhealsopassedahospital.Thesethingsinvolvingglovesandthehospitalmadehimbeginhisseconddaydream.Walterturnedabrilliantsurgeonwhowasperforminganimportantsurgery.Everyoneneededhimtotakeovertheoperation.Afterthat,hewasfooledbyaparking-lotattendant,forhisclumsyskillofparking.Whenheattemptedtorememberwhathiswifetoldhimtobuyandheardanewsboyshoutingabout“theWaterburyTrial”,histhirddaydreambegan.Hedreamedhimselfasacrackshotthatnotonlycanshotothersusesrighthand,butalsouseshislefthand.Thisfantasywasarousedmaybe,becausehewasnotsatisfiedwithhisparkingskillandhatedbeinglaughedbyothers.Sointhisdaydream,hisdreamthatadmiredbyotherscametrue.Walter’sfourthdaydreamcameashewaitedhiswifeandpickedupanoldcopyofLiberty,reading“CanGermanyConquertheWorldThroughtheAir?”andimaginedhimselfasaRoyalAirForcepilot,fightingGermanyandvolunteeringforadaring,secretsuicidemissiontobombanammunitiondump.Hepilotedaplanenormallypilotedbytwopeople.TheclosingscenecamewhenWalterwasstandingawall,smoking.Heimaginedhimselffacingafiring-squad,“inscrutabletothelast.”Havinghimselfexecutedbyafiringsquadcouldsuggestthathehasdecidedtoendhisexcessivedaydreamingandattempttoresolvetheproblemsthatcausehisdaydreams.Amonghismorallyacceptableoptionsare(1)toseeapsychiatrist,(2)totakeactiononhisown(suchasbecomingmoreassertive),and(3)separatingfromhiswife.Thisnovelisconcernedwiththetheme,Escapism.HenpeckedMittydealswithhiseverydayfrustrationsbyescapingintodaydreams.Mittyisasubmissive,accommodatingchap.Butwhenhemakeshimselftheheroofhisdaydreams,hebecomesaveritabledemigod.Hisdaydreamshelphimsustainhisegoagainstthenitpickingofhiswife.Symbolsarefrequentlyusedinthisshortnovel.Thecar,theovershoes,thegloves,andthetirechains:TheseallsymbolizeMrs.Mitty'scontroloverbumblingWalter.Sheordershimtobuyovershoes,weargloves,andslowdownfrom55to40.Inaddition,sherequireshimtotakehiscartoagaragetohavethesnowchainsonhistiresremoved.Policeman,parkingattendantandgaragemansymbolizethecontrolthattheworldexertsoverWalter.WarandgunssymbolizethestrongmasculinitythatMittylacks.Throughreadingthenovel,wecancometoknowthatWalterisamanwhoalwaysescapefromtherealityandbecomeindulgedintohisfantasticdreams.Inhisfantasy,hescarednothingwhereasheprotestedfeeblyatdemandsandbehavedcautiously.ThereisasharpcontrastbetweentheheroMittywhoreceivedadmirationsinfantasyandtherealonewhohadsomeunpleasantinteractionswithpeople.Inmyopinion,thisnoveldealswithamatterofthedifferencebetweentherealityandtheideal.Sometimes,whenwecannotgetwhatwewantorwecannotbewhatwewanttobe,daydreamingbecomesausefulwayforustofulfillourgoalsandsatisfyourdemands.Mittymaylongforrespectandadmirationfromothers,buttherealitydestroyshishopeanddesire.Thatiswhy,maybe,Mittyresortedtodaydreamingtosatisfyhimself.Isn’titasadthingforourordinarypeople?Wehavemanythingstodoeveryday.Wehavetoexecutetheassignmentsorderedbyothers,thoughwedon’twanttodothat.Wehavenootherwaytogetthereliefofourstressandthedaydreambecomestheonlymethod.Evenanordinarymancanbecomeanextraordinaryhero—withthehelpofhisimagination.AndwhoistosaythatthesecretworldofWalterMittyisnotarealworld?Afterall,daydreamsarepartofeverydayreality.Itisaneffectivewaytoreleasesomecomplaintandstressinourlife.Ialsodaydreamalotbeingaprotagonistinaromanceorbeingasuperstarperformingshowonagrandstage.Icangetsomecomfortandhappinessfromthesedaydreaming,butIalsoknowapersoncannotliveinimaginationorfantasyallthetime.Peoplehavetolivetheirlifeinarealworld.Afterdaydreaming,wefinallywillhavetocomebacktoearthanddealwithallthetroublesinlife.Thatistosay,toconfrontwithlifebravelyisthebeststrategy.Also,actionisanimportantwayofsuccess.Soweshouldalwaystryourbesttofulfillourdreamswheneverandwherever.Inthebeliefthatwhenthereisawill,thereisaway.
